The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! r@ejU'uz
Aq";z.gi+
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 F6q}(+9i
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has {p2%4
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   4Pz9&^K
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 \!w7 N :m
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with -n Hc52,
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was E"w7/k#3}C
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue & JF^a
music professionally. aZBaIl6I
'i`;Frmg
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped y<;#*wB
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights {ifYr(|p`
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture l@Ml8+
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In <m)@~s?D
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took :!r_dmJ
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, PDGh\Y[AK,
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for [9>1e
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a -MOf[f^
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on ~Q6ufTGhpM
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group C w$y
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states K-#Rm%J+Wy
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. lI&0 V5
"` 9W"A=
After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR xvrCm`3n@
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   }O!LTD
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life ;OVJM qg
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a bfrBHW#
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as D.\p7 NJ
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? -M/ny-; `}
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being P+Hs6Q
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   v,2{Vr
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on Llg[YBJ7>
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   /5wvXk|@
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that 1;H(
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not hd^?svID
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I xkqt(ng(
have made public through this release.?      lYJ]W[!
Y> 7/>x6
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil LrK6*y,z
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes P/ug'
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of A\ LTAp(I
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek Ct.Q)p-wn
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner J#JZ^59lOS
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. AQ-PY
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there IcaF 4#
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project ,?`$ ~8
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive .CmwR$u&
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to .Mm8\].
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e M6g!bK2l
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   N4$0ptz#}G
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but Z!hDTT
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of #X|'RL($
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I H!s &]b
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? 1Z*-@%RX
