Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 l[c '%M|N  
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has 0t%]z!  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   e}1Q+h\  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 w(&EZDe  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with \.}T_,I  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was XQ9W y  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue V%s7*`U  
music professionally. >fzyD(>

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped OyVP_Yx,V  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights Lo1ySLo$G  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture ;W|NG3_y  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In 05R"/r*  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took U,#x\[3!Jt  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, lQ`=PFh  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for :>{!%-1Z  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a pQBn8H|Y  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on #| _VN %!  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group m..ajYSQ  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states Hs'~)
T  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. nH?6o#]N

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR DOJydYds  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   9>w~B|/  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life dhob]8b  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a IZj`*M%3  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as ,M.}Qak^  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? o& FOp'  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being p"p~Bx  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   a%B&F|u  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on h8asj0  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.

The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that wK-VA$;:  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not } 7 o!  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I 4F|79U #

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil 63Zu5b"O/  
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes @!fUp b  
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of &]o-ZZX  
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek XQ}J4J~Vm  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner rgzra"u)  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. /S]RP>cQ  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there ;7z6B|8  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project ?'TK~,dG/  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive l;_IH|A  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to 7j\^
h2  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e HK/WO jr  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   "u7[[.P)  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but GLtd<M"  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of H_$?b  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I N9_* {HOy
