R&B ^1.*NG8 m}wn+R The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! TM(y%!\ Q
84t= Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 60!%^O = debut on the music scene. Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has ^<OYW|q?\r been performing music in one form or another for most of his life. G^W0!u,@ Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 89LD:+p/ he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with fQa*> **j; the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence. It was B[@q.n after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue 9O3 #d music professionally. %LMpErZO +Umsr This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped 2nkA%^tR who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person. The highlights
[Jt}^ of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture eT".psRiC Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White. In `MSig)V addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took cuQ!"iH his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, 5j`xSG Virtue. The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for WY!\^| , Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a n>ui'}L subsidiary of the Hendrix record label. This release spent 9 weeks on TF/NA\0c$ the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36. Though the group U*r54AyP was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states 7{F\b and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. R!j # $z%(He After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR >)ekb7 Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project. q~R8<G%YK His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life OS,!`8cw experiences, both good and bad. The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a *<xu3){:c celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as uslu-|b!% he recognized all that Jesus Christ is. Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? "@nH;Xlq was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being e-ta 7R4 born. It is songs like these that helped the album find its title. -"I$$C Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on jhm3:;Z two levels. First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience. ,' |J The things that they struggle with, I struggle with. The things that lr>NG,N trouble them, trouble me. Second, I wanted to show that this album is not f(|k0$EIu simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I [ey#
,&T have made public through this release.? `MI;.t Q ]CMm2L^f Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil @njNP^'Kx Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes "u^Erj# / through in the diversity of the album. Nehemiah wrote and produced much of Nu"v
.]Y2 the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek $NVVurXa Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner YcobK#c (Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. t<8)h8eW (Benjiman). The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there /q IQE&V- is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project |_TiF;^ it truly is. But while people will definitely respond to the impressive >
ubq{' vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to eC!=4_lx) the stories. 揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e q%4X1 W lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community. S oeoUI]m Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but i&:SWH= I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song. Each of a yoC]rE them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with. I F\DiT|?} look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.?
