The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! %>io$o
V Zz>)Kz:
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 rd_!'pG
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has 3*(w=;y
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   y/vGt_^;3<
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 %VH{bpS|i:
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with #jqcUno
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was cM?i _m
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue ztEM>xsk
music professionally. PKjM1wqaG@
2%Mgg,/~
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped #@UzOQ>
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights zNo>V8B(
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture alp}p
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In L,\wB7t
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took xg.o7-^M
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, {t%Jc~p{
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for 5 (cgHr"
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a h uIvXl
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on 2kfX_RK
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group z)_h"y?H{%
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states ix+sT|>
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. ISDeLUihY

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR MszX9wl
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   ~Gj%z+<
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life Tg jM@ir
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a ($T"m-e
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as Oz1S*<]=,~
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? s&)>gE\
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being %~rXJrK
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   Sg+0w7:2
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on ZnNl3MKV
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   0`Hr(J`F
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that mmvo >F"
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not U][\|8i
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I B,(zp#&yB
have made public through this release.?      hd N[wC]
 ZcE:r+
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil Wi2Tg^
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes I3hN7
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of Iw[7;B5v
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek 1+ib(MJ<:#
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner PBOZ^%k
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. oD.[T)G?
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there 2H9;4>ss
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project ,LodP%%UV
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive s ;2ih)[
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to ,)35Vi;.
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e .8dlf7* ,
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   (RU\a]Ry
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but '`sZo1x%f
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of fWs@ZCt
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I /Bs42uJ3
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? 60z8U#upM
