The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! ?P0$n 7,

Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 y5BNHweaRb
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has 8iqx*8}
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   o_b j@X
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 /DQoM@X
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with 9_ KUUA
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was 1;]cYIq
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue >9uDY+70I3
music professionally. hi`\3B
R l^ENrv!]
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped 3oE *86
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights najd~%?Rs
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture .!l#z|/x
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In \_De( p
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took QVb @/
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, 6EGh8H f
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for zw7=:<z=
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a J0C,K U(
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on 8`U5/!6fu
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group `GqS.O}C
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states t?QR27cs$
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. ,Hch->?Og

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR |Y0BnyGK
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   ]y2(ZTNTs
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life R1 hb-
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a 7t0\}e
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as VbKky1a@
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? mxGa\{D# y
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being 4F??9o8}
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   )l\BZndf
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on 1Xu\Tm\Ux
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   Y3mATw 3Wh
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that ~Q0jz/#c
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not 6f\0YU<C&
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I 9fzbR~s
have made public through this release.?      5d*k[fZ
Y \& 4`v'
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil Uj(,6K8W
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes r2M._}bF
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of h<$Vry}
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek Ae <v
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner IgG@v9'
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. n/=&?#m}d
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there %a{cJ6P
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project k$i76r
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive #T99p+O
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to I}kx;!*b
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e oz(<e
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   j_o6+R k
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but 0^? 3hK
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of 8N'`kd~6[
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I q/6d^&
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? kK16+`\+
