The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! VZ1u/O?ub

Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 $:u5XJx
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has ~2L]K4Z^
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   I$Ra*r
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 ui!MQk+D9
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with )1ct%rue
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was J};=)xLX;
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue )r`F}_CEL
music professionally. Q^@z]Sc[
%-Oo9 2tP
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped @\}w8
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights o'*7I|7a
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture nf,u'}psdJ
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In }}q_QD_
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took C'S&
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, {IG5qi?/E)
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for [39
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a L^%jR=
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on Og E<bw
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group Y| 2Gj(*8
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states T~G~M/
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. 0NFYFd-50

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR tjWf`#tH>H
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   /xh/M@G3
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life W*jwf@ 0
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a ;%V)lP"o
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as ?_BK(kL_
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? .j l|? o
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being f~-Ipq;F
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   89+Q^79m
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on >u/ T`$
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   kW.it5Z#
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that oJln"-M1nx
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not c`\qupnY
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I tyW}=xs
have made public through this release.?      T[1iZ
D|)_c1g
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil p@f #fs
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes t :YZua
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of 1 Cz}|#U
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek F!I9)PSj
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner xjxX4_
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. if1)AE-
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there eA(FWO
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project f@Ve,i
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive -~~R?,H'Z_
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to kyYU 1gfh
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e $K\;sn; |:
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   r_rdd}=b'
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but hf)R PG&
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of V^ ;l g[:
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I _-v$fDrz
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? 7<8'7<X
