Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 %s%v|HDs  
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has ]&qujH^Dd*  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   6?Rm>+2>v  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 t*<.^+Vd  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with uv}[MXOP  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was 7Nw7a;h  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped Z[yQKy  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights &p^S6h  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture f:GZb?Wyd  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In DHW;*A-  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took KO<Yc`Fs  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, *{P"u(K  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for =K=FzV'_~  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a D:U:( pg  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on }>=k!l{  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group \Q|1I  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states F"#bCnS  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. *T*=~Y4kE

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR D:e9609  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   '`#2'MXG  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life Ka&[ Oz<w  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a W^ict,t  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as <- Q=h?D  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? (YF`#v6  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being 7JD jJQy  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   yo`Jp$G  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on Lo\+T+n  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   Ra}%:  
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that k)UF.=$d  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not Wjn1W;m&g  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I !s06uh

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil UM(tM9  
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes r j#K5/df  
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of %|}obiV)  
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek ,di'279|  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner ~Jrtm7  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. ]y>)e

(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there -Mx"ox  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project !Low%rP  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive r5h}o)J  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to Sg(fZ' -  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e ~^cx a%  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   , \|S BS  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but s]Nh9h  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of ;|6kFBGC"+  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I m!3b.2/h
