Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 HJC(\\~  
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has i,nm`Z>u  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   4#(ZNP  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 9~0^PzTA  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with yE\wj  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was pCu!l#J  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue  8*c3|

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped KT.?Xp:z  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights ]=EM@  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture 7JDN{!jT  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In nq19Q)  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took #Ch;0UvFF  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, 3:5DL!Sm8J  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for &6j<ca  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a erl:9.  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on 5 #]4YI;  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group K?4FT$9G  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states QJW`}`R
 
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. M|[ZpM+

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR +-
a&2J;J'  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   ,SScf98,j  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life u=&Bmn_  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a -z:&*=  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as Kv{8iAB#c  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? }4>JO""  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being WV"jH9"[  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   6] z}#"  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on )B!d,HKt;  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   A K/z6XGy  
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that 70B)|<$  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not k]rLjcB  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I kLS(w??T

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil n

Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes ;$BdP7i:  
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of XjE>k!=I  
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek gLL\F1|0x  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner S*"u/b;  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. -Z^4L  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there CkRX>)=py  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project zQH]s?v  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive t/Z:)4Z  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to p8+/\Ee]B  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e ~"!a9GZ  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   @-#T5?  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but [B0K  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of BwJuYH7QJ$  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I h7;bclU
