The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! fP[S.7F+No
2FW"uYA;6
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 2z.~K&+x
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has )QW hzY
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   a)4%sX*I
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 .EPv4[2%F8
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with Qqi?DW1)-
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was Z4X, D`s
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue Uqz.Q\A
music professionally. QI'-I\Co
NiFe#SLA
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped h56Kmxxk
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights q9H\ $
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture 8f<y~L_(`
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In 1 +s;a]-C
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took #1C]ZV] B
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, eIEL';N6
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for W':b6}?
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a ,>01Cs=t8
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on x#5vdBf
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group h-//v~V)
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states uts>4r>+
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. H0!$aO
2~ 4&4
After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR ::+;PRy_E
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   DSRmFxkk
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life f`KO#Wc
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a }OhSCH'o6
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as o<J6KTLv
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? _-sFJi8B
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being QFnpp\K
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   +*w}H 0Z
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on &]Uo>Gb3!q
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   MD*dq
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that m?; ?I]`
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not sYo&@~T
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I 7AS_Aw1L
have made public through this release.?      98)C 7N'
xmEom
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil ?:M4GY" gV
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes [KFCc_:
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of q2r$j\L%
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek o ^ \+Ua
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner .P`QCH;Ih
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. $}r.fji,c
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there Zxd*%v;
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project BVj(Q}f8
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive /D1Lh_,2
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to $_,-ES I
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e $5/d?q-ts{
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   : 8j7}'
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but ?;_>BX|Zjl
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of 6bc\ )n`
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I @D !*@M6
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? \gkhSL q
