The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! h7ZH/g$)

Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 [pms>TQ2
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has |5>A^a
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   :)Es]wA#HZ
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 LTBH/[q5
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with %npLgCF
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was 3W ]zLUn
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue kqX %y
music professionally. Y\<w|LkD8
5jK|
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped U`N?<zm<oO
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights >~7XBb08
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture m%eCTpYo
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In '/D2d
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took w9u|E46
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, Tn,_0
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for [A,!3BN
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a \+Qd=,!i(
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on g_PP 9S_?
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group xc'uC bH
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states #N`MzmwS
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. AzzHpfv,

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR u1kCvi#N
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   |0p@'X1
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life Z;u3G4XlF
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a Dg~m}La
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as O)R}|
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? Ymnh%wS
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being DHjfd+E=s
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   ?t}s3P!Q3w
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on UZ<.R"aK
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   _lT'nFe =Q
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that hb0)<^xu
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not }/tf^@
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I FwKY;^`!d
have made public through this release.?      ~T9QpL1OJ
,. ht ~AE
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil Pdh`Gu1:3
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes #u"@q< )
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of DIP%*b#l$\
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek rT-.'aQ2t
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner A3HN Mz
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. 6o]{< T/'
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there li{<F{7
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project ET H ($$M
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive xz} CqPJ#
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to m'G=WO*%
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e 3ohHBo
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   pP# _B
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but g@t..xJ,
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of xe.f]a
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I 4y4r;[@U
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? a3:45[SO4e
