The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! $f_Brc:n {
ACc.&,!IZ
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 >AV?g8B;
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has -49OE*uF
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   _<&IpT{w+
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 KD=T04v
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with J %URg=r
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was u JGYXlLE
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue }Z"<KF
music professionally. ^2XoYgv
&H<-joZ)Z\
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped ewD61Y8-
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights "C%;9_ig$
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture o^2.&e+dQ
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In %/jm Q6z^
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took Fod2KS;g
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, L3'o2@$
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for 5Y JLR;
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a Lr_+) l
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on @zW'!Ol
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group d2Bn`VI
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states 1P@&xcvS\
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. J8~3LE )G
WADNr8.
After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR g.Z>9(>;Y
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   ~\(U&2t
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life r)q6^|~47
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a j'I$F1>Te
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as K'7i$bl%
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? {C[<7r uF
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being mS6L6)] S
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   =&< s*-l[
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on 6(VCQ{
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   AS'a'x>8>,
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that 79z(n[^
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not Xq1n1_Z
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I vH9/}w2
have made public through this release.?      Lr V)}1&5
[-=PK\ B
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil Rq<T2}K
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes Ay22-/C|@
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of 7?dB&m6W
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek n@Y`g{{e~
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner ;N6L`|
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. Y6,< j|
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there p (:\)HP)R
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project 8(\Az5%
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive [89#8|+
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to (Rve<n6{A
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e ; P&K a
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   W:ih#YW_F
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but %DbL|;z1
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of y!h$Z6.
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I l!EfvqWX
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? ,0[bzk
