Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 4 E3@O
debut on the music scene. Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has ,2JqX>On>Y
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life. *wt yyP@
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 ;TSnIC)c
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with `Q26Dk
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence. It was =\4w" /Y
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue }=A6Jv(j
music professionally. @usQ*k

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped R
$'}Z
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person. The highlights /p\Ymq
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture U]vNcQj
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White. In L:Wy- Z
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took 6?*iIA$b
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, k6JB%m\E
Virtue. The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for C*Ws6s>+z
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a nWFp$tJ/R
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label. This release spent 9 weeks on qjR;c&
q R
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36. Though the group j,/o0k,
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states ,_NO[+5U
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. gEKJrAA

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR |D]jdd@!a2
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project. FGwz5@|E
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life 2IjqTL
experiences, both good and bad. The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a b@YSrjJ
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as uzp!Y&C
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is. Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? O.rk!&N
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being bSz6O/A/
born. It is songs like these that helped the album find its title. @TgCI`E
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on KD,b.s
two levels. First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience. s #L1:L
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with. The things that pbqa
trouble them, trouble me. Second, I wanted to show that this album is not (59<Zo
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I DVSYH{U4
have made public through this release.? 8(3vNuyP

Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes ][G<CO`k
through in the diversity of the album. Nehemiah wrote and produced much of 4D58cR}
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek 5 yA^ n6

(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. O)9T|,

(Benjiman). The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there ke3=s
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project <
