The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! n6gYZd
{cF7h)j
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 \?,'i/c-
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has \C3ir&
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   Fj9/@pe1
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 @<]xbWhuw
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with XpzdvR1
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was w;.'>ORC
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue &jgpeFiiC
music professionally. 8#%p[TLj
'3>kDH+
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped v>3)^l:=Y*
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights ,jBd3GdlZ
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture H_'i.t 'SS
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In PXGS5,
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took ]McLace&
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, ]1 #&J(
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for V1KWi ^
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a NF1e>O:a<
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on =2#a@D6Bl
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group i0uBb%GMT
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states }DTpl?l
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. 0(s0<9s%

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR 0lNVQxG
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   &nk6_{6 c
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life B$k<F8!%
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a 8T'=lTJ
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as P>=~\v nN#
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? =R#K` H66j
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being MN2#
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   BRP9j y
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on Q5e ,[1
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   %t0Fx
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that omM*h{z$$
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not buo_H@@p{s
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I rt%.IQdY
have made public through this release.?      .~V0>r~my
:X[(ymWNE
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil 8uoFV=bj\
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes b r)oSw
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of @v9 PI/c
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek C #ng`7 q
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner S .rT5A[
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. U">D_ 8
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there TX]4Y953D
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project PY: l
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive SoODss~X
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to i^(_Gk
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e vy#n7hdCc
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   wKhuUZj{
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but 4KE"r F
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of lIO.LF3
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I R2Fh WiL
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? Qi|jL*mj&
