Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 >5L_t   
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has ~qGW94  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   @CL#B98jl  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 1H/I-

 
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with 'EAskA]*  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was Kmx^\vDs  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue U{hu7  
music professionally. _J W|3q

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped Xzf,S;XV~  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights oYStf5  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture BU/A\4xQ,Y  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In `;;l {8  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took %g.cE}^  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, uy3<2L#.  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for }A24;'}  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a M]/aW  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on #Q^".#  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group }a6t<m`V  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states VoZ{I{>|  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come.

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR f=R+]XPzz  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   E3wL n/<  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life Kx]SiejJ  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a \BXzmok  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as @>(KEjQTz  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? &9#m]

was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being 6- i.*!I 8  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   _f^KP@^j  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on r8Pd}ptPU  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   JL= c

The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that chE!,gik  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not hb5K"9Y  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I ;J5z

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil GYaP"3Lu  
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes V;

through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of nG!<wlY14P  
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek 2Kz+COP+  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner xZ9:9/Vg  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. n_e'n|T  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there ?W'p&(;  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project 3N+lWuE}K  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive cj8cV|8@  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to m,E$KHt (  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e zzQWHg]/  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   Lqj Q

Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but U4pIRa)S  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of !SQcV'  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I |/*Pimk
