The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! 2'jOP" G
wCs^J48=
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 Th[f9H%
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has DF]9@{
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   5 *}R$
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 &ad I (s~
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with d9*hBm
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was <>eOC9;VY
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue KT|RF
music professionally. mpC`Yk
}uHrto3M
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped iF5'ygR-Z
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights GY3 Wj
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture ;rI@ *An
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In 5V[oE\B
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took 5la>a}+!!h
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, . JX EK
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for l5%G'1w#,j
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a ,&PE6h n
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on VLsxdwHgb
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group C,V%B
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states 7`vEe 'qz
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. O-]mebTvw
qs\2Z@;
After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR !J1rRPV
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   _cTh#t ^
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life 'oNO-)p\#!
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a DBLk!~IF
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as 8bK|:B#6,
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? _$NIp `d
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being _EnwME {@
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   C$Lu]pIL*
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on r0t^g9K0
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   (2ur5uk+
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that H~eRT1
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not vr#+0:|
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I -&82$mj
have made public through this release.?      T J^u"j-'
)M=ioE8`h
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil I&?Qq k
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes Mwb/jTp
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of ;Mm7n12z C
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek ^L1L=c;,
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner D.D$#O_n.S
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. WH ?}~u9
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there `.x$7!zLC
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project .Xm(D>>k
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive ~AY N
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to sb:d>6
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e Y3kA?p0
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   dca ;'$
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but ]A FI\$qB\
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of ELrsx{p:
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I rn DCqv!'P
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? Gir#"5F
