The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! njMLyT($
1%eLs=u?
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 xH$%5@~
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has =lrN'$z?%
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   X <xqT
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 Kym:J \}9B
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with *Q/E~4AW|t
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was ,OB&nN t>
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue <nA3Sd"QfV
music professionally. 3wNN<R
f[@#7,2~M
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped cdsQ3o
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights LXxl?D
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture r5)f82pQ
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In Qa?Q bHc
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took w4}(Ab<Y
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, IMR$x(g= F
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for nDn{zea7
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a j?J=w=.Nx
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on w{ m#Yt
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group K z^hQd
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states _6I>+9#C
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. 9jjL9f_3

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR A?V<l<EAm
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   Sh47c4{
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life )XZ,bz*jn
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a ;@O(z*14@
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as ,,2_/u\"/i
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? ~l4Q~'
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being >hesxC!
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   #|D:f~"d3
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on "p2u+ 8?
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   kjfxjAS=m
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that n%Rjt!9
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not M%77u=m
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I xKisL=l6Y
have made public through this release.?      s={X-H< 2
f Y2l.H\f
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil wf^cyCR0
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes s UvKA0
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of QTJrJD
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek 4O9tx_<JG
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner y& Gw.N}<r
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. /Ir 7 DZK
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there @#J H=-06
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project 72% {Wh/
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive + >Fv*lux
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to :K5V/-[|V1
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e mRNHq3
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   ZO]E@?Oav
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but sVNo\
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of ggzAU6J
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I Cf.WO%?P
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? pPU2ar
