The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! ;7k7/f:
%LHV0u
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 @/L. BfTz
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has V bOLTc
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   qhtAtP>i"
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 P*Sip?tdE
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with u$8MVP
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was :j<JZs>`R
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue |"w<CK lQ
music professionally. QL18MbfqP
+Uq:sfj,
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped {PtTPz
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights 1o78e2B
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture m?$G(E5
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In 8T )ELhTj
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took S=SncMO nE
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, 5O ;^Mk|
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for $#3<rcOq
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a q Xhf?x
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on ^!_7L4&y
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group eh4"_t
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states _4B iF?1
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. xGv,%'u\
<|Eby!KXR
After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR +\vY;!^
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   7Sq{A@ ET
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life \'tz|
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a )wv[!cYyW
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as 1";e'? ^x
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? @ aN=U=
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being {<4?o? 1 g
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   L00 ;rTs>
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on >E ;o"
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   ?V:]u 3
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that yi-"hT`
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not / !
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I ieRBD6_
have made public through this release.?      wDMB
UJ)M:~O
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil !XA%[u
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes \If!5N
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of XAxI?y[c
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek Yn]y d1
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner I+j|'=M
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. K(KP3Q
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there _.*4Y
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project U2>dwn
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive <bXWkj
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to h*%0@
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e \g:qQ*.
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   lJ]\
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but *5_ 8\7d
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of m/c&/6nk
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I 2DC cGKa"
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? q|$>H6H4b
