Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 NIbK3`1  
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has t:vBVDkD  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   0{8L^ jB/  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 u-4@[*^T$  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with |vGHhzZ|  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was hKWWN`;b !  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue $8HiX6r  
music professionally. :|niFK4

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped G\;6n  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights 6Xm'^T  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture c-Yd> 4+1  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In #eJ<fU6Da  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took V(DY!f_%  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, j4!O,.!T  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for {)!>e  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a +FqE fY4j  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on FN=WU< 5  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group Q1?*+]  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states aVc{ aP  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. fPPP|

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR pWJEFm  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   (?zD!% k  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life <"P-7/j3j  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a hdrsa}{g  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as \y=oZk4  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? q^EY?;Y  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being DmLx"%H3  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   |ll

Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on V8TdtGB.|h  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   Q-gVg%'7  
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that OVe0{} j  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not \P?X`]NwnO  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I y5m2u8+

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil SFDTHvXu#_  
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes Q zaD\^OF  
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of z

the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek }P fAf  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner A&

(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. TxP+?1t  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there <L#d<lx  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project }>u `8'2v  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive H%>4z3n   
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to <TRhnz  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e Hn(1_I%zF  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   RE%f'y  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but M]/aW  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of 4.jRTL5-oj  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I VoZ{I{>|
