Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 'S =sj}X  
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has 1TKEm9j]u  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   $aB/+,  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 <f%ujrX  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with +"jl(5Q  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was ;avQ1T'{?g  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue 3\;v5D:  
music professionally. d)N^PJ/

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped Fj S%n$  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights ZTN(irK  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture &|)hCJu  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In $j57LY|r  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took js~tKUvg  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, F"!agc2!  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for \Ke8W,)ew  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a yH*hL0mO  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on ODm&&W#*  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group %B@!  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states 
>^dyQyK  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. $0_^=DEW

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR M|d={o9Hp  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   djWcbC=g_  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life )D;*DUtMVm  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a ~e{H#*f&1/  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as Rq) 0i}F  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? JjQ8|En  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being T'E] i!$  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   2+z1h^)W  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on )B6

two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   1!vPc93 $$  
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that R,%_deV\(  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not YydA6IK4  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I ?]^zD k@~

Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes {

the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek `ruNA>M  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner _3/ec]1  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. Jm4#V~w  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there 5k]XQxc6_  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project [u`6^TycP  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive TXjloGv^  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to 'TL2%T/)t  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e 9e!vA6Fx  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   -IadHX}]t  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but n@hl2M6.x9  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of >L gVj$Z  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I xRlYr# %
