Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 wu}Z

debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has QT(]S>--n  
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   9}G<\y  
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 h{ EnS5~  
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with  (S&D  
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was NV2$ >D  
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue j4(f1

This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped .;:dG  
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights fQ2U|  
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture ~(.&nysZ-  
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In =MmAnjo  
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took P&AaD!Qn  
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, DN|+d{^lN  
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for F-2Q3+7$  
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a =T#?:J#a  
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on -z>m]YDH  
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group ,sltB3f  
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states Lcf]  
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. _`xhP-,`S

After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR f!JSb?#3  
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   , 4@C%  
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life >,nK  
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a K9S(Xip  
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as uo7[T*<Q  
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? $2$jV1s  
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being }XRRM:B|)(  
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   ab*O7v  
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on {N@tJ,Fh{  
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   P8GGN  
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that %`]fZr A]#  
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not 2.&%mSN  
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I U6~79Hnt

Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil FO?I}G22  
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes ph@2[rUp  
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of mv1|oFVW  
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek jN2Xoh9  
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner "nC=.5/$  
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. /5C>7BC  
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there ]C$$Cx)Ex  
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project UQCond+K  
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive 7kQ,D,c'  
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to fh@/fd  
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e kud2O>>  
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   ^j]"5@f  
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but ^uIKwql  
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of ]`eJSk.  
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I dhI+_z
