The smooth sounds of R&B with a gospel twist !! BrwC9:
`;;l {8
Though Public Mind is Nehemiah抯 first solo release, it is not Nehemiah抯 d>8" -$
debut on the music scene.  Raised in his father抯 church, Nehemiah has KBN% TqH|
been performing music in one form or another for most of his life.   X4!7/&
Nehemiah had recorded his first song by the age of 12 and at the age of 15 /]xa}{^B
he headlined his first concert in his hometown of Portland, Oregon with ?[NC}LC
the proceeds going toward teenage victims of domestic violence.  It was Kh(`6 f
after that concert that Nehemiah was convinced that he wanted to pursue l_+@Xpl
music professionally. Kx] SiejJ
_2hLc\#
This pursuit has had its ups and downs but each one of them has shaped iT4*~(p 3
who Nehemiah is today, both as an artist and as a person.  The highlights ?s^3 o{!<W
of Nehemiah抯 early career included an appearance in the motion picture CPP~,E_
Reggie抯 Prayer, starring the late football star Reggie White.  In JL= cIH8
addition, Nehemiah appeared on a nationally syndicated talk show, took &HM-UC|
his live show to Canada, and opened up for the famed R&B/Gospel group, J @"#
Virtue.  The experiences of his teenage years opened the door for p1Zb&:+
Nehemiah to later join Soul, a contemporary gospel group signed to a =79R;|5
subsidiary of the Hendrix record label.  This release spent 9 weeks on "lL+Heq>V
the Billboard gospel charts and peeked at number 36.  Though the group RQx8Du<
was short-lived it provided Nehemiah the opportunity to tour the states 2L^)k?9>g+
and establish relationships that would bear fruit in the years to come. != ,4tg`
kk3^m1
After briefly filling the lead vocalist spot in a group with producer HR 'RK"/ZhqE
Crump (Beyonce), Nehemiah decided to focus on developing his solo project.   tUJRNEg
His debut solo album, Public Mind, is the product of all of his life b]+F/@h~]
experiences, both good and bad.  The mid-tempo track 揟hat Person?is a mUh]`/MK$
celebratory autobiographical account of all that happened to Nehemiah as S }`sp[6
he recognized all that Jesus Christ is.  Another personal song, 揊ly Away,? Yv;s3>r
was written for his daughter, Amiah, who died several weeks after being neDXzMxF
born.  It is songs like these that helped the album find its title.   e{P v:jl
Nehemiah explains, 揟he title of the album is intended to communicate on yJm"vN
two levels.  First, I wanted to emphasize that I identify with my audience.   u#E'k KGO
The things that they struggle with, I struggle with.  The things that }9'`3vsJ
trouble them, trouble me.  Second, I wanted to show that this album is not Z.6dL
simply a collection of songs, it is a window into my mind and life which I @Iv;y*y
have made public through this release.?      A IP~A]T
z*eBjHbF
Nehemiah lists artists ranging from Commissioned to Boyz II Men to Phil )\fY1WD
Collins among his influences and the diversity of his personal palate comes 9B: 3Ha=
through in the diversity of the album.  Nehemiah wrote and produced much of `C+<! )2
the disc himself while also teaming with producers and songwriters Derek k&]nF,f
Clark (Fred Hammond), Anson Dawkins (Dawkins & Dawkins), Chris Turner w )R5P[b
(Singleton抯), Cole Brown (Michelle Williams) and his brother J.B. p~qe/
(Benjiman).  The production and vocals on the project are top notch, there /~[Lr
is nothing about Nehemiah抯 debut that sounds like the independent project |7s2xRc
it truly is.  But while people will definitely respond to the impressive ?['!0PF
vocals and banging tracks Nehemiah hopes they will especially be drawn to NI >%v
the stories.  揝ome of these songs are birthed out of experiences I抳e i--t ?@#
lived and some of them were born out of the experiences of my community.   @X2*O9
Not all people will be able to relate to the exact details of every song but wHc my
I believe everyone will find themselves somewhere in each song.  Each of /U~|B.z@6
them speaks of something true and real that we can all identify with.  I T # \
look forward to hearing how people find their own stories in these songs.? k9^Hmhjw
