Love at First Sight

They both thought
that a sudden feeling had united them
This certainty is beautiful,
but uncertainty is more beautiful still.

They thought they didn't know each other,
nothing had ever happened between them.
These streets, these stairs, this corridors,
they could have passed each other long ago

I would like to ask them,
if they can remember -
perhaps in a revolving door
face to face one day?
A "sorry" in the crowd?
"Wrong number" on the phone?
- but I know the answer.
No, they don't remember.

How surprised they would be
for such a long time already
fate has been playing with them.

Not quite yet ready
to change into destiny,
which brings them nearer and yet further,
barriering their path
and suppressing a laugh,
leaped aside.
There were signs, indications,
but maybe just undecipherable.
Three years ago, perhaps
or even last Tuesday,
this leaf flying
from one shoulder to another?
Something was dropped and then picked up.
Who knows, perhaps the ball vanished
into childhood bushes?

There were handles, door bells,
where, on the trace of a hand,
another hand was placed;
suitcases next to one another in the
left luggage.
Perhaps they had the same dream on a certain night,
suddenly erased after waking.

Every beginning
is only a sequel, after all,
and the book of fate
is always just half open.

他们都以为
是那瞬间的感觉
将他们结合在一起

却又让他们擦肩而过
阻断他们之间的联系
又忍着邪恶的笑意
跳着跑开了

运气也曾经给过他们暗示
但这暗示也许过于深奥
可能在三年前
或者就在上个星期二
不是就有一片落叶
从他的肩上飘到她的肩上？
一个人的东西曾经掉落
又被另一个人拣起来
谁知道呢
也许就是儿时树丛中的那个小皮球

某个门把手上
或者某个门铃上
两个人的手
也许曾经放在同一个位置
两个人的包
也许曾经挨着放在行李架上
甚至
也许两个人曾经做过同样的梦
只是第二天早上起来
却忘掉了

每一次开始
也许
都只是一种继续
而两个人之间的故事
却永远只写了一半
